Department of Mysteries Medal

I have joined the Hogwarts Running Club. The Hogwarts Running Club organizes virtual runs that are Harry Potter themed in order to raise money for various charities and inspire others to partake in a healthy lifestyle. I normally wouldn’t participate in a virtual run. I feel that normal race fees go towards the experience of the race such as closing roads, fueling stations, medical tents, chip timers, ect. I also like running with other people on the course. That is a motivating factor for me. In Virtual races you don’t get any of that. While some races do give out finishing medals, in virtual races that is all you get. I feel like it is just buying a medal. With that said I did sign up for my first virtual run, The Department of Mysteries 6.2242 for the Hogwarts Running Club (62242 spells out magic on a phone). The Medal was the main reason I signed up; it has a red British phone booth on it. I love British phone booths! I just had to sign up to receive that medal! I mean where else am I going to receive a British phone booth race medal? The charity partner of this race is the The Brotherhood ride. They are a Florida based group of firefighters, police officers and EMTs who ride bicycles to honor those who have died in the line of duty. The money raised from the event will go towards helping the families of those who scarified themselves to protect the rest of us. That is the other reason I signed up. I love joining an event where the money helps those in need, especially in my home state. The virtual run will be held on July 31st, Harry Potter’s birthday of course! Look for my race recap of the virtual run on Friday.

Charity Miles App

The Hogwarts Running Club also has a house cup competition going on right now. Basically you run each day and those miles go towards helping your house win the house cup! You can pick what house you are in or get sorted on Pottermore.com. Once you know your house, you can join that houses common room on their Facebook. The competition uses the Charity miles app to track the miles. The app is great because while you are racking up miles for your house, you are also supporting a charity. Each run or walk you do can support a different charity that is listed. At the end of the run it tells you how much money you raised. The way you track your miles for your house is by signing up for a team. Each house has their own team name. Once you are in that team all of your miles can be seen by the Hogwarts Running Club. There is also a leader board in the app where you can see who is in the lead for your house! It’s a fun way to get people moving and it creates a community for people who like me, like both running and Harry Potter.
